Wind Energy | What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Wind Power?

There are several advantages and disadvantages of wind power. Wind power is harvesting the forces of the wind to be applied to practical uses, such as powering a house, or a neighbor hood. This energy may be harvested many ways, such as wind mills, wind turbines, and also wind pumps. I will be introducing a step by step guide that taught me how to build my own windmills and solar panels at home for renewable energy.

Wind power has several advantages, one of them being that wind is virtually limitless. Another pro about using wind energy is that there is no pollution going out into the environment that other energy sources such as coal or other fossil fuels emit into the atmosphere. These pollutants have awful side effects on the environment as well as all animals. Many animals are temperature sensitive, or need certain conditions to thrive; all of these things can and will be changed if alternative means of gathering energy are not found.

Turbines and mills take up very little space which is an advantage of using this new form of energy, because the land does not have to go solely to one use. Sure turbines and mills are large vessels, but that is only upwards. There is still much room towards the base of each turbine or mill to use as farming or grazing land. This is not only utilizing an efficient way to harvest energy, but it is getting the most use out of the land possible. The fact that mills and turbines come in different shapes and sizes is convenient because you may want to invest in a turbine or mill of your own, which means you will need one that will accommodate your specific space.

As well as advantages that wind power offers, there are also several disadvantages as well. One of the biggest disadvantages is that with the strange effects of global warming, our weather patterns have been very inconsistent and unpredictable. This is a huge problem because these structures may cost several hundreds of dollars, but the pay off to break off even from the money saved may take months, or even years. Many birds are also killed by wind turbines because birds fly in search of heavy winds. Since birds are attracted to strong winds, they may fly too close to the turbines while they are in motion and get hit and die. Several thousand fowl fatalities have been causes sue to wind turbines, or mills.

Furthermore, another disadvantage of these turbines and mills is the fact that they are so costly. During severe wind or thunder storms these mills can intake damage which can cost upwards of thousands of dollars to repair. Also, metal attracts lightning which is very probable to occur because these structures are so high in the air. The money saved on harvesting wind power may be spent on repairs alone.

When it comes down to it, there are many advantages and disadvantages of wind power. This form of energy is among the first alternative means of harvesting energy, this idea may not solve the energy crisis, but every baby step towards a resolution counts. I have personally managed to build my own home DIY wind and solar panel system simply following a DIY guide online.
